From Thought to Form

Olee Maatee takes shape where material meets intention. Rooted in Devrukh in the Konkan region of India, we are shaped by the quiet rhythms of land, rain, and community. The name comes from Marathi, where “Olee” means wet and “Maatee” means soil, reflecting clay in its most soft, alive, and responsive state.

This idea informs how we work, where making begins with a sensitivity to material and process. It extends into experimental surface research, with textures, glazes, and finishes developed in-house to bring depth and individuality to each piece. The work is tactile and intentional, carrying the quiet evidence of the hand within a refined contemporary sensibility.

Beyond objects, the practice extends into space, in dialogue with architecture and environment. In homes and curated settings, it settles gently, carrying warmth, rhythm, and quiet presence.

By Hand, With Intent

We begin with material, not form. Founded by artist Bharati Pitre, our practice is shaped through a close engagement with clay, allowing it to guide the making process. Drawing from wheel throwing and hand-building, it balances structure and spontaneity.

At the core of the studio is Bharati Pitre’s practice, shaped by a direct and intuitive approach. Moving between craft and concept, she creates sculptural forms that feel grounded yet open, shaped by both hand and intention. We operate between tradition and experimentation, bridging craft with a contemporary design language.

Rooted in place yet open in expression, the work evolves through process, exploration, and a continuous engagement with form.
